Marimba solo composed in three sections with introduction. Introduction utilizes one-handed independent rolls followed by a polyrhythmic melody, unfolding into a beautiful, slow middle section. After a brief transition, the recap explores various roll types and contemporary marimba techniques.
With a Mazy Motion
A Vibraphone four mallet solo that comes out of a book set of three contributes to its light hearted rhythms and constructed chord system. Relax and enjoy a free flowing piece. I do take a few liberties in the speed and color of the piece in distint areas. I wanted to take what I had found and make it my own with subtle differences in exaggerations in motion specific areas.
Soca 1625
Arthur Lipner
A jazz soloist series for vibraphone and marimba. Lipner takes a look into old tunes and brings to life a learning experience like no other. The pages are filled with chord progression studies and a mix of soloist material broken down as a simple introduction to the novice and finally progressing to a strong series of captivating runs and relics of past performances by the great Lipner himself. A great piece for any percussion soloist.
Space Dancer
Arthur Lipner
This Vibraphone and Marimba duet is a great musical example of trading fours. As one plays the other interrupts to add it a new variation on the theme. A repetitive piece with an existing conga style drumming in the background that meshes with the influental patterns of the music. Get readly for a piece that takes you out to space, floats you around and then drops you back to earth on a pillow of heavenly delight.
Rainy Dreams
Andrew Frohling
A multiple percussion piece that explores the realm of possibilities of sound on a marimba. Also incorporating vibraphone, three selected symbols, and a variety of mallets. The idea of this piece was to exchange styles and sound construction with the visual component of a dream. The good, the bad and the ugly are distinctly replicated my certain sounds you here on a variety of the instruments. The dream state began with a calm section of four mallet roll techniques that progressd into a soft sounding rain reconstruction and vibe bell tones. The middle part consisted of intense sound from the cymbols and the use of the cover on the marimba and wooden shafts directly on the bars. From this short proliferation of wild rhythm design came a rainy deay situation of bliss and mastered marimba bar play. On and off again come the different sounds with a final display of the first theme of vibe bell tones and calming saturation of chordal roles.
